Titanic anchor

Zinc etched panels

This was a very succesful collaborative project. Commissioned by Dudley  Metropolitan Borough Council, it was coordinated by the Community First Partnership of Hagley, Worcestershire.

Footprint handled the design, illustration and artwork of two round panels. One told the story of the original anchor manufactured in Netherton and its journey to the Titanic in Belfast, from where it began its fateful journey. The second panel told the story of the return of the replica anchor to Netherton where it now stands for all to see.

The panels have been mounted on relica Titanic windlasses made for this project by local business, Industrial Heritage Stronghold. Large chains wrapped around each windlass, dissappear into the ground. The chain making tradition is strong in this area and the interpretation also celebrates this fact. IHS continue this tradition today.
